Child Safe Organisation

BCRG is committed to the NSW Child Safe Standards for Child Safe Organisations.

These standards are based on the National Principles developed in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

BCRG is working toward becoming a Child Safe Organisation and is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people it supports and expects that all children and young people who participate in its programs will have a safe and positive experience.

The standards are:

  • Child safety and well-being is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
  • Children and young people are informed about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
  • Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
  • Equity is upheld, and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
  • People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
  • Processes to respond to complaints and concerns are child focused.
  • Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
  • Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
  • Implementation of the National Child Safe Principles is regularly reviewed and improved.
  • Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.

We support and respect all children, as well as our staff and volunteers.

We are committed to the safety, participation and empowerment of all children.

We have zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently with our policies and procedures.

We have legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we are worried about a child’s safety, which we follow rigorously.

BCRG is committed to preventing child abuse and identifying risks early, and removing and reducing these risks.

BCRG has strong recruitment practices to reduce the risk of child abuse by new and existing board members, staff and volunteers.

BCRG is committed to regularly training and educating our board members, staff and volunteers on child abuse risks.

We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability.

From 1 February 2022, our organisation now must show how we are implementing the Child Safe Standards. We welcome the start of this scheme and have started implementing the Child Safe Standards to make our services even safer for your children
